Course Description:

This two day course is for staff from local governments or naturally-aligned organizations who wish to learn more about how the COR audit is conducted. Participants wishing to become certified Internal Auditors must successfully complete a student audit within three (3) months.

In order to maintain certification, two (2) maintenance (Internal) audits and seven (7) hours of approved training must be completed within 3 years of Internal Auditor Certification.

Course Objectives:

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

• Understand what an audit is, and the purpose of auditing a Health and Safety Management System and Stay at Work/Return to Work System.
• Be familiar with the Certificate of Recognition (COR) and the audit cycles.
• Know the roles and responsibilities of Auditors.
• Be able to apply the three audit verification techniques (documentation, interviews, and observation) when conducting an audit.
• Understand the concept of representative sampling for both interviews and sites (documentation review and observational tours).
• Be able to write an executive report, noting the municipality’s strengths and providing suggestions for improvement – clear, actionable recommendations to achieve improvement.
• Have the necessary knowledge to perform an audit and understand the purpose of the audit steps.
• Understand the administrative processes in auditing.
• Be able to list the eight elements of the BCMSA Safety Audit Tool.
