RTW COR Update September 1, 2015

As you may recall, WorkSafeBC determined that RTW COR was frozen effective January 1, 2013.

The Certifying Partners met with WorkSafeBC on November 28, 2013.  Here is the information  that we are able to share with our members and naturally-aligned organizations:

  • The RTW COR Program remains frozen, and there will be no new RTW certifications in 2014 or 2015.  Employers that are currently participating in the RTW COR Program may continue to use the existing audit tool for 2014 and 2015, for maintenance and recertification audits.  What will happen after December 31, 2015 has not been communicated by WorkSafeBC.
  • WorkSafeBC, in consultation with key stakeholders, is drafting a new “Work Disability Prevention” (WDP) Standard.  There is a goal for this new WDP Standard to lead to the development of an associated WDP Audit protocol and for a reintroduction to the COR Program in 2015; however, the decision to “unfreeze” COR RTW  will only be made when WorkSafeBC is satisfied that the new WDP Standards will result in positive and measureable outcomes.

In May, 2012, the BCMSA began using a web-based audit tool. Audits for large public sector or naturally-aligned employers may only be submitted using this format.

Only Certified External or Internal Auditors, or internal auditor candidates, may receive the key and must submit a Notice of Audit form prior to receiving the audit tool key. Submit your Notice of Audit form to Dale Seth (

To help you prepare for your Audit, here are the documents, observations and interview questions the auditor will be looking for, doing and asking. This tool will also help you determine the number of interviews required in your organization, before an auditor requests a “key” for the web-based audit tool.

There are fifty questions that may be entered in a single department in the audit tool; these are shown as “Corporate” on the documentation worksheet.

Please note:  the SAW/RTW questions and documentation are still included here – until we know what they will be replaced with.
