Clay Fredin – City of Vernon

May 25, 2021/in BOD elections

Clay Fredin is an occupational health and safety professional who has been applying his considerable knowledge and experience for 20 years. Graduating with a diploma from the BCIT Occupational Health and Safety program in 2001, he began his career as a Safety Coordinator in the Healthcare sector where his passion for safety continued expanding and in 2006 he moved to the challenging environment of the municipal sector.

Clay has the great satisfaction of knowing he facilitates a safe workplace for his team and all employees at the City of Vernon. As Manager of the Occupational Health and Safety department under Human Resources, Clay has successfully maintained 10 years of Certificate of Recognition (COR) certification, from 2011 through to the upcoming 2021 audit. Through these years Clay has observed the safety culture strengthen at the City as a direct result of the COR program.

Clay believes safety can and should be applied in daily life. Clay volunteers as a Scout Leader, and for the last seven years has been adapting his wealth of knowledge by incorporating principles of safety while assisting the scouting youth to enjoy their camping, hiking, and badge work. He also enjoys helping his sons learn about safety and recently built a tree fort with both boys who helped with construction.

As a member of the BCMSA since 2006, Clay has regularly participated in meetings and conference events and in 2012 he was successfully elected to the BCMSA Board of Directors. Clay appreciates how fortunate he is to be part of a team providing guidance for the growth and success of the BCMSA through the development of policy and strategic direction. While being able to provide insight and differing viewpoints gained through his years as a safety professional, Clay has also greatly benefitted from the collective collaboration of the Board.

Clay is grateful for the privilege of serving on the Board of Directors and is eager to continue applying his knowledge, skills and abilities to assist the Association in its strategic objectives.

Thank you for supporting his re-election to the BCMSA Board of Directors.
