Crane Training for Operators of Folding Boom Cranes 22 Tons and Under

This course is for new operators getting ready to challenge the BC Crane Safe Folding Boom Cranes 22 tons and Under test.

Course content includes the following:

  • Theory for crane operations,
  • Crane certification,
  • Reading load charts,
  • Hand signals and relaying hand signals,
  • Calculating loads to be lifted,
  • Knowing the crane capacity,
  • Basic rigging of loads,
  • Proper rigging requirements,
  • Using hydraulics,
  • Pre-trip safety inspection of both the truck and the crane,
  • Keeping a log of crane use,
  • Completing pre-trip inspections for both truck and crane log entries,
  • Securing the crane prior to using the crane,
  • Proper traffic control,
  • PPE,
  • Using remote controls,
  • Overhead hazards,
  • Electrical hazards,
  • Lifting loads according to load charts,
  • Wind conditions and when not to attempt a lift,
  • Folding the crane and unfolding the crane,
  • Using manual control (when required),
  • Using multiple controls,
  • Post-trip inspections and reporting problems with the crane.

Practical training includes:

  • Reading load charts,
  • Hand signals and relaying hand signals,
  • Calculating loads to be lifted,
  • Knowing the crane capacity,
  • Checking for crane certification,
  • Basic rigging of loads,
  • Proper rigging requirements,
  • Using hydraulics,
  • Pre-trip safety inspection of both the truck and the crane,
  • Keeping a log of crane use,
  • Completing pre-trip inspections for both the truck and the crane log entries,
  • Securing the crane prior to using the crane,
  • Proper traffic control,
  • PPE,
  • Using remote controls,
  • Overhead hazards,
  • Electrical hazards,
  • Lifting loads according to load charts,

The crane operator certifications can be requested to occur very shortly after completion of this course; this will ensure operators receive their training just prior to their certification exams.

  • Operators are required to be registered with Crane Safe BC prior to attending this course.
