About the Role:

Term: 2-Year Temporary Full-Time (Maternity Leave Coverage) – Potential for Extension or Transition into a Permanent Role
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant/Finance Specialist to join our team on a 2-year basis to cover a maternity leave. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role will focus on managing full-cycle accounting and payroll functions for the organization. The successful candidate will ensure accuracy in financial reporting, maintain compliance with policies and regulations, and contribute to the overall efficiency of our financial operations. While this is initially a temporary position, there is the potential for it to transition to a permanent role, depending on the needs of the organization. Key Responsibilities:

  • Full-Cycle Accounting & Payroll: Overseeing the complete accounting process, including payroll, from start to finish. Ensuring timely and accurate processing in compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Fund Accounting Management: Managing and tracking multiple funds within the organization, ensuring that each fund’s financial activity is accurately recorded and reported according to regulations and organizational policies.
  • Month-End & Year-End Reconciliation: Conducting month-end and year-end financial reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial statements and records.
  • Financial Accuracy & Compliance: Ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately, maintaining strict adherence to internal controls, financial policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Financial Reporting: Preparing monthly financial reports and statements, including but not limited to analysis of budget-to-actuals, to provide clarity on the organization’s financial standing.
  • Audit Support: Assisting with year-end audit planning and collaborating with external auditors to provide necessary documentation and resolve any inquiries.
  • Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities for process improvements to drive efficiency and enhance internal controls, ensuring streamlined accounting practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education & Certification: Formal education in bookkeeping/accounting. CPA or progress toward a CPA, or similar designation preferred. PCP designation or progress is an asset.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience, including 1-2 years of full-cycle accounting. Working knowledge of ASNPO and experience in the Non-Profit/Charities industry is preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, with strong data analysis and presentation abilities. Experience with QuickBooks Online Advanced is an asset.
  • Non-Profit Experience: Experience in the non-profit sector, local government, or fund accounting is a plus.
