The City of Coquitlam has an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our Human Resources Team. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will be one of three Safety and Training Coordinators accountable for supporting and contributing to the on-going development, implementation, coordination and administration of the City’s Occupational Health and Safety Program.
The successful incumbent in this role will be well-versed and knowledgeable in all aspects of workplace health and safety and must be able to interpret and provide advice to managers, supervisors and employees in matters pertaining to the application of relevant legislation and WCB Regulations. In addition, our candidate will possess extensive hands-on experience in designing and implementing safety initiatives and delivering safety related training to diverse work groups. In addition, a working knowledge of WorkSafeBC claims management and coordinating modified work assignments and return to work initiatives will be required.
Our team is highly collaborative working cohesively with other members of the HR team as well as our internal clients and external stakeholders. As a result, our ideal candidate will flourish in this setting, possess excellent communication (verbal and written), and strive for excellence and best practices when carrying out the functions of this role. We are a busy, high volume department with lots on the go. As a result, while this is a 1-year term, there may be an opportunity to extend based on operational needs.
These attributes will be matched with a minimum two-year Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, plus sound related experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
This exempt position offers a salary range of $85,000 to $93,000 per year and an extensive benefit package including a compressed work week.
