Load Securement

This course is for drivers who are responsible for securing a load on a vehicle prior to it leaving the yard. This course includes the following:

  • North American load securement standards,
  • Division 35 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act Regulations,
  • Load securement devices,
  • Checking the load securement devices prior to using them,
  • How many tie-downs are required,
  • Unitizing loads,
  • Belly wrapping loads,
  • Securing heavy equipment on decks,
  • Using synchs including ratchet synchs,
  • Using web belts,
  • When not to use web belts,
  • Using protective corners for web belts,
  • Selecting the right grade of chain,
  • Making sure that the tie-down devices are properly tagged and marked,
  • Frequency of checking load securement,
  • Securing pallet laden materials,
  • Securing pipes and barrels,
  • Tarping some loads,
  • Containments for the loads,
  • Load placement on the decks.

At the conclusion of the course, participants will be required to complete a written quiz that will be marked by the instructor with the participant present.
