Through Work to Wellness, Diana Vissers has been solving workplace mental health problems for individuals and organizations since 1999. At the heart of Work to Wellness is passion for helping people and their workplaces thrive. This includes assessing and solving individual needs and helping employers understand their role and responsibilities around mental health. She is an Instructor and developer of a Workplace Wellness course at Simon Fraser University, and leads multiple workplace mental health training programs across the province and for BC Municipal Safety Association. She is a CMHA Certified Psychological Health and Safety Advisor. She is most proud of leading a thriving and happy remote team for over 20 years.

Phil Eastwood, MA, CSP

Phil Eastwood is one of Canada’s premier human resource training facilitators, specializing in respectful workplace behavior, workplace violence prevention and ethics and accountability. Phil’s career has focused on working with people in crisis, and he has learned the power that professional and respectful communication can have in people’s lives. Fiore Group Training is focused on “Creating Incredibly Safer Workplaces” by showing leaders, managers, supervisors and employees that, by fine-tuning how people communicate with each other, remarkable changes are possible! Fiore Group Training has been helping businesses experience this change with training in Workplace Violence Prevention and respectful Workplace Training for over twenty years.

Mike Mathers, MSc MA

Registered Clinical Counsellor

Mike has a M.Sc. from Kings College London (UK) in the Philosophy of Mental Disorder as well as an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from the Adler University in Vancouver and he has been a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) since 2012. He has also completed a psychotherapy training program with the International Society for Logotherapy and Existential Analysis – Vienna. Existential Analysis is an approach that aims to assist people in finding more meaning and fulfillment in their lives.

Mike has an interest in mindfulness meditation and enjoys spending time with his kids and he stays active by playing basketball, biking on the seawall, golfing poorly and going to the gym.

Part 1:  Identifying psychological impacts and needs due to Covid-19

Diana Vissers will host this introductory session where she will examine the workplace impacts of Covid-19 and introduce tools to detect and recognize mental health concerns.  Participants will apply the mental health continuum to Covid-19 scenarios and learn about self-assessment and screening tools.  This session will introduce the topics for the remaining sessions.

Part 2: Skills for communicating effectively with people experiencing psychological distress

Phil Eastwood is an expert in diffusing distressed people and will co-facilitate this session.  Diana Vissers and Phil will discuss common work scenarios and Phil will offer tips, suggestions, and tools to effectively respond.
